  Know the differences:

Real Estate Agent

A person who has passed a state required test in order to obtain a license to sell real estate.  The Florida Department of Real Estate (DRE) says this about an agent’s license:

This license is required of individuals who are to be employed as salespersons under the supervision of a licensed broker. A license may be obtained by a person who does not immediately intend to be employed by a broker. However, in this instance, no licensed real estate activity may be performed. The license authorizes real estate activity only if the salesperson is in the employ of a licensed broker. Realtor® ®

A person who has passed a state required test in order to obtain a license to sell real estate and who then becomes a member of the National Association of Realtors®.  

Realtors adhere to a strict code of ethics approved by the National Board of Realtors (NAR). The code assumes that people conducting a real estate transaction must adhere to a higher set of standards that those people working in other business arenas. Realtors are, according to the Realtor Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, "zealous to maintain and improve the standards of their calling."


I am a licensed Florida broker and a member of the Florida, Alachua, and  National Associations of Realtors®.®   I also belong to the, Real Estate CyberSpace Society, and many more groups.  Relationships I foster in such groups help me serve you better.


Real Estate Broker

A person who has passed a state required test in order to obtain a license to sell real estate and who ALSO has fulfilled considerable additional training, experience requirements, and initial and continued testing in order to secure and keep the difficult-to-obtain real estate Broker’s license.

All three types of real estate professionals are licensed representatives who may assist the buyer or seller with advice, information about current market conditions, and help to negotiate the sale.  However, there is often a large gap of knowledge and experience between agents, agents who join a national association, and Real Estate Brokers.

As you can see, there is a big difference between a licensed real estate agent and a licensed real estate broker.  I have worked hard to gain and retain my broker’s license for many years.  Why?  Because I wanted to know as much as I could about the job that I do.  I knew that if I learned all that I could, that I could do a far better job of representing you than someone else who may aim less high in their professional advancements.  I’m here for you!
